Epilogue

A few weeks passed, and as Cream's leg mended so did her friendship with Tails. All bad spots where patched up. Normally over a trip to the ice cream shop.

The two went almost every week.

For a reason no one else could tell, every week Cream wore dark sunglasses and that over sized hoodie.

"Who ever thought I'd find so much sentiment in wearing this over sized get-up?" Cream asked Cheese one day.

Cheese chirped happily and flew in circles around the shelves in the rabbit's room. The shelves had just as many picture on them now. Mostly of her, Cheese, her best friend Amy, her other best friend Tails, her mother, and her step-dad-to-be Vector. Of course, one held a picture of Knuckles and Rouge from the wedding.

The doorbell rang on the front door.

"He's here" Cream smiled and literally flew down the steps to meet him.

As the two you'd teen turned to exit the house, Vanilla stopped them.

"This came for you, Cream." Her mother handed her a letter.

"Rouge's handwriting" Cream said as she opened it.

"I-it's a thank you note. I didn't give them a wedding present."

"Well..." Tails began.

"What?"

"I may have wrapped up that old picture frame you had, signed your name and given it to them for you.  I mean, you made it for Knuckles in the first place."

"You forged my signature?" Cream said with mock anger and shock.

"In a sense, yes."

"I'll get you for this one, Prower!"

"Not if you can't catch me!" Tails called as he bolted out the door.

"Oh, yeah?" The chase was on.

Vanilla looked out the window after them. Vector joined her a moment later.

"Kids, huh?"

"They won't be kids much longer, Vector. They really just aren't anymore."


Years passed. Happy years. More changing years.

Sometimes, big change comes in the smallest package. For Knuckles and Rouge, within a few years that was the truest thing for them.

"HIGHER! HIGHER!" Squealed an almost two year old white and red echidna as her babysitters pushed her on a swing outside Vector and Vanilla's home.

"Alright, Gloss." Cream said. "Tails, you get her up into the sky for me."

"The sky!" Gloss happily called. Her long dread locks blew out behind her, as well her extremely tiny wings.

"Alright, here we GO!" Tails gave the swing one big push. The little girl gave unintelligible cries of delight.

"Gloss!" A voice called from around the corner.

"Daddy!" She cried as she hopped off the swing.

Knuckles entered the fenced yard and Gloss went running to him.

"Did you have fun?"

"Yes! Can I pwease come see Tails and Aunt Cream tomorrow?"

"We'll see, Sweetheart." Knuckles picked up Gloss and spoke to the older two. By now it was well known Tails and Cream where a dating couple. "Thanks again, guys."

"No problem!" They said in unison.

After Knuckles and Gloss left Cream sat on the swing with Tails pushing her.

"Soooo, what are we going to do for my birthday tomorrow?" Cream asked him.

"Well, how's dinner at your choice of restaurant sound?"

"Perfect. Going to tell me what you got me?"

"You can have it now if you want it."

"Really?"

"Sure. Heads up!"

He tossed a small black box in the air. It landed in Cream's lap.

She looked at the small jewelry box and momentarily forgot to breathe. She opened it and gasped.

"Oh, Miles..."

She jumped off the moving swing and ran around to hug him.

Tails flushed a small bit and scratched his head.

"Can I take that as a yes?"
